I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts lately. Mostly about real estate investing but also about what makes successful people so successful. A common theme that I’ve noticed is the importance of having positive daily habits and setting goals…the right way.
In this post I share the simple worksheet I created to completely change my daily routine. Choosing my habits and using this worksheet has reduced my stress and helped me accomplish more throughout the day.
Lots of people set New Years resolutions yet most of them fall short of actually accomplishing their goals. I’ve learned that taking notice of the negative daily habits that hold me back and working to change them has had a big impact on how well I am able to accomplish my long term goals.
Creating and tracking positive daily habits is one of the best things you can do to increase your chances of accomplishing your goals. At least that’s what they say on all the podcasts, amirite? Really though, I’ve been testing this theory myself for the last few weeks and it has made a big difference.
Do you want to start taking charge of your own life so that you can accomplish more, too? Well, I hope so, and I would like to help. For FREE! Start by writing out some of the negative daily habits you have that could be holding you back from accomplishing your goals. Some examples could be spending too much time on social media, watching too much Netflix, playing video games, or staying up too late and sleeping in too much. The list can go on and on and obviously we all have different habits so just start by writing yours down.
Now that you have a good idea of what your negative habits are, what are some good ones you could replace them with? Some good examples of positive habits could be: getting up earlier (proven to make you more successful), reading books about personal growth or about a topic related to your field of work, journaling, working out, etc.
Once you have a good list of positive habits, print out the goal tracker worksheet I created below and write down some habits you want to start doing daily. At the end of every day, if you completed the positive habit you wrote down for yourself, put a check mark in the box for that day.
Writing down and tracking your habits does two major things. First of all, it helps keep you accountable which greatly increases your chances of accomplishing your goals. Best of all, it’s easy to do because it gets you excited to check off as many boxes as possible. I like to turn it into a personal challenge for myself to check of more and more boxes every day, every week, and every month. Keep doing this, and before you know it, every day will be full of positive habits that get you closer and closer to your long term goals.
The second thing that tracking your goals does for you is it gives you a record that you can look back on and see how well you are doing at accomplishing your goals. Every successful company keeps a record of how they are doing so that they can track their growth from week to week and year to year. You should treat yourself the same way. We are all our own little businesses and the ones who build systems and track how well they are following them are the ones who will see bigger success in the short term and long term.
